The AHA Community Training Center of the Robert Packer Hospital, Bradford/Susquehanna EMS Council

As this regions largest provider of CPR instruction, the Community Training Center offers programs in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Neonatal Resuscitation, as well as Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training, First Aid, Heart Saver and BLS Instructor Development courses.

Course List & Details

The Community Training Center adheres to all requirements of the American Heart Association regarding course testing and completion. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Course Completion Card.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support

The Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course is designed to develop the resuscitation skills of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, paramedics, and respiratory therapists.

All students must submit copies of their current Healthcare Provider CPR card with their ACLS registration.

There are two types of ACLS courses offered:

The TWO-DAY ACLS program is for students who do not have a current ACLS card, or for those students renewing with current cards who wish to take the full program. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory.

Standard One-Day Renewal Program: The ONE-DAY ACLS RENEWAL is for those students with current unexpired cards who possess an active familiarity with ACLS, and feel comfortable with an abbreviated renewal course.

One-day renewals are ONLY permitted at designated renewal programs, and are not permitted at the second day of a two-day program.

$300 Non GHS Employee (with textbook for Initial or Expired ACLS card )
$225 Non GHS Employee (Renewal with Textbook)
$200 Non GHS Employee (Renewal without Textbook)

Experienced Provider One-Day Renewal Programs -
ACLS-EP: This is a new expanded course designed to challenge experienced providers rather than repeat information in the ACLS Provider Course. ACLS-EP teaches new and expanded information in the following pre-arrest areas: critical cardiovascular emergencies, toxicology, electrolyte imbalances and environmental emergencies not currently addressed in ACLS. It is strongly recommended that only those providers with a strong background in ACLS and who work in either the Critical Care or Emergency setting and work with the ACLS guidelines on a regular basis, should take this course.

Registration Requirement: Complete registrations must be received no later than two weeks prior to the course. If you do not receive confirmation ten (10) days prior to the class date, you must contact the Training Center at 570 882-6390 to confirm receipt of your registration.

Please enclose a copy of your current healthcare provider card and, if you are registering as a renewal, a copy of your current ACLS card. All incomplete registrations will be rejected and returned for completion.

Course Completion: The Community Training Center adheres to all requirements of the American Heart Association regarding course testing and completion. Upon successfully completing the course you will receive a letter of completion with documentation of attendance. Nursing Education contact hours will also be available.

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course material, do not represent income to the Association.

CPR EDUCATION - Heart Saver AED Program

Heart Saver AED Program is a 4-hour course that provides Automated External Defibrillator training to laypersons who are not health care providers. The training is available to police and fire departments, corporations and businesses, which allows laypersons to receive instruction and use Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) equipment. This course also teaches participants how to recognize a medical emergency, adult CPR training, first aid for choking victims, and the use of barrier devices to reduce the risk of infection. Private, on-site courses can be arranged for groups of six or more.

BLS Instructor Development

The BLS Instructor Development Program is designed to train interested candidates in the skills necessary to teach CPR to others, and certifies students as American Heart Association BLS Instructors. A current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card is required (a copy of the card must accompany registration form).

FEE: $200

Due to classroom space, some courses are limited to 18 registrants.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course is designed to develop the resuscitation skills of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, paramedics, and respiratory therapists.

Registration Process & Forms

Important Information You Will Need to Know Regarding the Registration Process

ACLS/PALS/BLS class schedules are posted at www.bsems.org on the Training Page.

Applications must be received no less than (10) ten business days prior to your selected choice date. This will allow enough time to mail the required materials to each student to prepare for their course. Applications can be found on the www.bsems.org website.
Once registered, should you need to cancel class attendance, please contact us by phone at 570-882-6390. You will be given a cancellation number by phone and email.
Please print clearly to assure proper spelling and complete all required information on the registrations form.
All renewal class registrations must submit current copy of Healthcare Provider card.
To be eligible for renewal, your current card must not exceed the month’s end of the recommendation date to renew.
ACLS initials must submit a current copy of Healthcare Provider card along with registrations form; please do not submit separately. Also, if you are an employee of GHS please forward a copy of employee ID – in order to verify employment. Non GHS registrations will not be processed without a form of payment provided.

We will accept faxed registration forms if you are an employee of GHS and your Department Head has approved the course by completing and signing the employee section of the form; which is located at the bottom of the registration form and fax to 570-882-6053.
We will accept faxed registration forms if your payment method is via credit or debit card. Please complete the mid-section of the form and fax to 570-882-6053.
All other payments made via checks and money order payments must be submitted via mail or walk-in. The EMS Council is located near the RPH campus at 123 West Lockhart Street, Sayre, PA. Office hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (closed on holidays).
The Community Training Center will review the registration form for completeness and you will be notified shortly via mail regarding your course selection. Incomplete registration forms will be returned to the address listed on the registration form. It will result in an unconfirmed class; and a course closure may occur during this delay.

GHS departments may reserve slots for attendance. Student applications must be received by the EMS Council office 30 days prior class start date. If no application is received, the slot will be released to other students.

Important Information You Will Need to Know Regarding Card Processing

At the end of a ACLS/PALS course, we will provide you with a course completion letter that will give you a result of “Congratulations” – “Re-Evaluation Required” or “The Course Must Be Repeated”, this letter also, serves as proof for continuing education credits and it is valid for 30 days from the course date.
ACLS/PALS students will be provided with a textbook. Textbooks are the property RPH. Textbooks must be returned at course completion in order to receive an ACLS or PALS certification card. Students can obtain personal use textbooks at Murphs Mart on the RPH campus.
At the end of a BLS course, you will be provided with a course completion letter, this letter serves as temporary proof of course completion and it is only valid for 90 days from the course date. If you have not received your card within six weeks, please give the Community Training Center a call at 570-882-6390. You have up to 90 days to report that your card has not been received, after which, we will consider it as a card replacement.
There is a $10.00 card replacement fee for GHS and Non GHS individuals if your card has been damaged, lost or misplaced.

Please be advised that the cards are mailed to each applicant at the address listed on the registration form. It is the responsibility of the participant/employee to provide a copy of their current card to their Department Manager and Human Resource department of their workplace.
